Title:  Civility:  It’s Time to Talk About Civility:  What Is It and How Can You Promote It In Your Workplaces?

Description:

In 2024, SHRM announced its “1 Million Civil Conversation” initiative to promote and foster inclusive and respectful workplaces. According to SHRM’s research, 66% of workers said that they have experienced incivility or witnessed incivility in their workplace within the past month. More concerning is that 33% of workers believe workplace conflict will increase over the next 12 months. SHRM also found that workers who rate their workplace as uncivil are three times more likely to express job dissatisfaction and more than twice as likely to consider leaving their job in the next year. Tackling incivility is no easy task.

When it comes to promoting civility, Old Dominion University is leading the charge and has incorporated civility into its organizational culture by:  implementing policies to address civility in the workplace, taking part in National Civility Month in August, creating an ACE Civility Toolkit, and spreading the civility movement. Join us for a special presentation with Dr. Veleka S. Gatling, Assistant Vice President of Diversity & Inclusive Excellence at Old Dominion University.
